Aiming to verify the effect of foliar fertilizer application to soybean crops in different regions of Brazil, an experiment was carried out in soybean commercial crops in the states of Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul.

Continuous cropping soybean is a common agricultural crop. Due to prolonged cultivation in the same plot, soil nutrients tend to deplete, leading to poor growth. To enhance the yield and quality of continuous cropping soybean, selecting appropriate foliar fertilizers is critical. Below are some recommendations:

  1. Nitrogen Fertilizers: Nitrogen is an essential nutrient for plant growth and plays a vital role in promoting the development of continuous cropping soybean. During the growth period, applying foliar fertilizers rich in nitrogen, such as urea or ammonium nitrate, can provide necessary nitrogen to stimulate root development, improve stress resistance, and increase yield.

  2. Phosphate Fertilizers: Phosphorus is indispensable for plant growth, influencing photosynthesis, respiration, cell division, and differentiation. Using phosphate-rich foliar fertilizers like superphosphate or potassium dihydrogen phosphate during the growth stage promotes root development, enhances disease resistance, and boosts productivity.

  3. Potassium Fertilizers: Potassium is crucial for plant growth, impacting development, photosynthesis, respiration, and cell wall formation. Applying potassium-rich foliar fertilizers such as potassium sulfate or potassium chloride strengthens roots, improves disease resistance, and increases yields.

  4. Micronutrients: Microelements like iron, manganese, copper, zinc, boron, and molybdenum play specialized roles in plant growth. Supplementing with micronutrient-based foliar fertilizers (e.g., iron sulfate, manganese sulfate, copper sulfate, zinc sulfate, boric acid) enhances disease resistance, supports root development, and improves stress tolerance.

  5. Compound Fertilizers: To meet the nutritional needs of soybeans at different growth stages, compound fertilizers containing nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium can be selected. Follow the recommended dosage on product labels to avoid overapplication, which may cause nutrient waste or adverse effects.

  6. Application Methods: Timing and technique matter. The optimal spraying window is during the early growth phase (e.g., 7–10 days after sowing), when plants enter a rapid growth phase and absorb nutrients efficiently.

  7. Precautions:

    • Choose fertilizers based on soil and plant conditions.
    • Adhere to recommended dosages to prevent overuse.
    • Ensure even spraying for full coverage.
    • Avoid application under harsh conditions (e.g., extreme heat or humidity).
    • Monitor plant responses and adjust strategies if abnormalities arise.
